Joel Estes (left) and Melinda Ortega reenact a call in the simulation lab at Pro EMS in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Using life-like dummies and actual equipment and medicine, the simulation lab allows trainers, students, and working EMTs and paramedics to work on their emergency response technique. Pro EMS analyzes 100% of their emergency calls, looking at all aspects of the call from travel time to methods used by the EMTs and paramedics. If this analysis shows ways that the paramedics could have improved their performance on a call, trainers will simulate the conditions of that call, including patient pulse rate and other conditions, in the simulation lab and work with the paramedics to improve their performance.
