In December 2007, the Amity Printing Company celebrated the printing of it's 50 millionth Christian Bible. The Amity Printing Company is the only company allowed to publish Christian Bibles in China and, with a new printing facility scheduled to open in May 2008, is the world's largest producer of Bibles. The Amity Foundation, a Chinese charity founded in 1985 with the express purpose of promoting education, health, social welfare, and rural development in China, oversees the Amity Printing Company. The Bibles printed by the Amity Printing Company in a variety of languages are used both domestically and abroad. Within China, the Bibles go to both registered and unregistered Christians.

China's relationship with religions, and especially Christianity, has varied over the past decades and centuries. Still officially atheist, the country now officially recognizes 5 religions: Buddhism, Taoism, Islam, Catholocism, and Protestantism. The government requires Christians in the country to register, and the official tally numbers Chinese Christians between 15 and 20 million. Unofficially, though, there may be more than 50 million Christians. The Chinese government periodically raids so-called "House Churches" which are unregistered places of worship.

With the new facility, Amity Printing Company will produce 23 Bibles every minute.

On May 18, 2008, the Amity Printing Company in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China, inaugurated its new printing facility in southern Nanjing. The facility doubles the printing capacity of the company, now up to 12 million Bibles produced in a year, making Amity Printing Company the largest producer of Bibles in the world. The company, in cooperation with the international organization the United Bible Societies, produces Bibles for both domestic Chinese use and international distribution. The company's Bibles are printed in Chinese and many other languages.
